Improvements to the AspSpider web hosting program
We are a group of software engineers working in our leisure time to give you this free offer. Just like any other software guys, we too write code with lot of bugs so that we can
fix them proudly
!
Change Log
January 15, 2008
- We need to make our members active in AspSpider and get some search engine traffic. Now onwards, only if you have atleast 10 resources/answers posted in AspSpider within last 30 days, you can use the FileManager in the control panel.
September 22, 2007
- The simple, but long awaited feature is online now. You can view the disk usage from your control panel now. Also, be prepared to see more Ads in your control panel. We are raising fund to allow new registrations starting from October 2007.
September 1, 2007
- It has been almost an year after we did any major changes to this service. Today we upgraded our service to ASP.NET 2.0. (Even though we allowed our members to host ASP.NET 2.0 websites, our site was still running on ASP.NET 1.1.)
In addition to switching to ASP.NET 2.0, today's changes include major improvements to support several servers and domains. While you may not notice any changes, our scalability improvements will allow us to add several servers in the near future.
September 14, 2006
- The new database backup feature will allow you to backup and zip SQL Server databases on one button click. Feel free to make backups often and download the zip file to your local computer. Don't forget to delete the .zip file from your database folder to save some space.
May 21, 2006
- It was a long waiting. We are back with more resources. Thanks to the members who encouraged us to go for Ad supported service and continue our free service. We have added support for the following domain names:
AspSpider.ORG
AspSpider.BIZ
AspSpider.WS
AspSpider.INFO
Existing domain AspSpider will not be available for new members any more. Also, the waiting time for new accounts is reduced from 24 hours to 15 minutes.
May 8, 2006
- New registration is re opened for members who registered till today.
April 15, 2006
- We are running out of resources due to heavy demand for hosting account. New registration is temporarily closed in order to offer a quality service to existing members.
Feb 11, 2006
- We have introduced
compress & extract features
for our members. Now members can upload compressed files and extract them on the server. Also, a new 'compress' feature allows members to compress folders and download.
Feb 10, 2006
- We identified couple of security loop holes in the server settings. Tightened security and re opened hosting service for members.
Feb 8, 2006
- This was a bad day for us. A serious hack on our site permanently deleted some of our member sites -

Jan 25, 2006
- Now we allow to
upload .dat files
.
Jan 23, 2006
- We have implemented the automated process to watch for inactive members, send warning and delete abandoned member sites.
Dec 23, 2005
- An enhanced 'Delete All' option will allow you to delete all files in a specific folder or all sub folders. Also, there is an option to clean up your entire site by detaching all databases and deleting all files.
- Couple of glitches in "One Click" deployment of starter kits fixed. Also, we have cleaned up the "ASPNETDB" to take only 2 MB space instead of 10 MB.
Dec 14, 2005
- Many users were complaining that they are getting the error 'Database is in use' while trying to detach the SQL Server database. This was because when we attach the database, the connection to the database gets pooled and never released it. We added 'Pooling=False' to the connection string while attaching and members can detach databases without any issues.
Dec 10, 2005
- Now you can deploy ASP.NET Starter Kits on one
button click
! We support Club, Personal and Time Tracker starter kits.
Dec 9, 2005
- Delete option can now delete the folder,
even if it is not empty
.
Dec 7, 2005
- The File Upload feature has been improved. Now you can upload upto 10 files at a time.
Dec 2, 2005
- Today someone
requested for a search feature
in the
forum
. One of our developer said 'I can do it in 1 hour'. I offered a free lunch if he can do it. Guess what happened!
Dec 1, 2005
- Database Manager has an exciting feature now - Attach or Detach any number of SQL Server 2005 Express dataabses.
Nov 29, 2005
- One of our developer announced 'we have to be pro active' and he inserted a piece of code ( Directory.CreateDirectory(...) ) wherever file operations are done. He wanted to make sure a folder will be automatically created, if it does not exist for some weired reason. But he did that for files too instead of folders alone. End result? When a member try to delete a file, it will
create a folder with the same name
. If you delete "web.config" from your account, you will get a folder called "web.config"!. Anyway, our pro active developer fixed it, but he had to buy dinner for the team.
Nov 21, 2005
- File download feature has been implemented. You can use this feature to backup MS Access database files.
Nov 19, 2005
- Max file size that can be uploaded using FileManager is increased to 50 MB for database files.
- You can now delete any folders in your account. (It was a silly bug in our code, but we were looking at the Windows 2003 security issues to figure out the problem!)
- File Manager is getting improved. You can now download files from your account.
Nov 05, 2005
- AspSpider is mentioned in several forums now. Lots of people are registering with us just to test our features and they never come back. We received more than 1000 new registrations within the first few weeks of our launch, out of which less than 100 ever came back to AspSpider. We added a new rule to protect our resources for serious hosters. Any member can create a web site only 24 hours after registering with us. (If you come back after 24 hours, we assume you are a serious hoster!)
Oct 26, 2005
- Some of the members uploaded files outside the webroot folder and after that FileManager was crashing due to a glitch in the code. We have fixed the issue and also removed the "Upload Files" and "Create Folder" buttons from the root level so that no user can upload files outside "database" and "webroot" folders.

Oct 21, 2005
- The "App_Data" folder will be created by default for all new members.
Oct 20, 2005
- Lot of members experienced issues with SQL Server Express. Un installed current version and installed a newer version.
- All members created so far were given 50 MB space instead of 10 MB. Fixed the bug and changed all member accounts to 10 MB limit.

Oct 15, 2005
- Oops! The first bug reported. Instead of 1024 KB, a smart programmer wrote 1024 Bytes in the config file. So, no one can upload any files more than 1 KB size. Thanks to
Rahul Bagal
for reporting this issue. We have fixed the bug and now any one can upload up to 1 MB size.
Oct 14, 2005
- Finally, we convinced ourself that we are ready to go Live!
